' A Soldier's Sacrifice... '

MoonBee Canady
Goodbye My Love, Goodbye
I Won’t Be Coming Home
Goodbye My Life, Goodbye
To All That I Have Known …

“ They Said For The Growth Of Freedom

I’m Lying On A Mound

My Tears and Sweat and Blood

Irrigates This Battleground ”

Is This What Was Meant

When They Speak of Glory Bound?

Why Do I Feel A Loss

If Valor Is What I Found?

Goodbye My Dreams, Goodbye

To All That I Could Be

Goodbye Sweet Jesus, Goodbye

Please Remember Me …

I’m Only 23 …

I Had So Much To Give

And Now That I’ve Given It …

I Find I Want To Live!

I’m Laying Down My Body

For Country and Hometown

I Think I Hear A 6-Shots Salute

From That Last Gunfire Round …

I’m Offering My Honor

Mom and Dad Will Be So Proud

But Now I Have To Wonder

Is This War Worth Being Plowed …

“ They Said For The Growth Of Freedom

I’m Lying On A Mound

My Tears and Sweat and Blood

Irrigates This Battleground ”

I’m Offering My Personal Best

For A Political Belief

I’m Offering Up My Soul

All For The Sake Of Peace …

“ They Said For The Growth Of Freedom

I’m Lying On A Mound

My Tears and Sweat and Blood

Irrigates This Battleground ”

I Offered Up My Shoulder

So Justice Could Stand Taller

To Straighten Twisted Disorder

We Patrol A Foreign Border …

I Offered Up My Strength

So They Could Try To Make Some Sense

And Watch Out For Evils In This World

They Said They’d Watch Over My Girl …

Goodbye Blue Sky, Goodbye

The Last Thing That I See

Goodbye Sunlight, Goodbye

This Soldier Has To Leave …

“ They Said For The Growth Of Freedom

I’m Lying On A Mound

My Tears and Sweat and Blood

Irrigates This Battleground ”

... Sacrifice plays a huge role in a soldier's life. Soldiers are sacrificing their lives every single day to fight for their country. This shows that they believe in their country, and they stand up for what their country believes in. "A Soldier's Sacrifice" mostly shows how much these soldiers are giving up when they go to war. "Goodbye My Love, Goodbye" (1, Canady), "I Won't Be Coming Home," (2, Canady). When soldiers go to fight for what they believe in, their family and their home are only two of the things that they are leaving behind...
Being a solider completely has to do with sacrifice, not even remotely does it relate to selfishness. These soldiers have a dream of peace and freedom, and they are willing to sacrifice their lives to achieve this dream. "A Soldier's Sacrifice," also relates to the short story, "The Bridge Keeper." In "The Bridge Keeper" the man sacrifices the life of his son for the lives of many in an oncoming train. Although he does not know the people in the train, it's either he sacrifices the one life of his son or the many lives of many strangers. This relates to the poem because when soldiers go off to war, they are representing a whole nation. Chances are, these soldiers do not know everyone in their nation. And therefore, they are sacrificing a life for a bunch of strangers’ lives, just as the man from "The Bridge Keeper," sacrificed his son's life as the result of doing what's right...
