Conclusion

...While doing my tapestry, I have discovered the significance of sacrifice. I have found many inspiring stories and media pieces related to sacrifice, that reveal the strength it takes for a person to sacrifice. I have also discovered how much of a waste being selfish truly is. Before tapestry, I knew that being selfish meant only having concerns for one’s self. But I now realize that there is much more to being selfish... With selfishness, comes a waste. One life can impact so many people: friends, family, teachers, or even strangers. A person can donate, socialize, and do activities with others. Although all of these things can be done, selfish people would never think to do any of which. And therefore, only one person is benefiting from that life. So, from this, my meaning of being selfishness changed from only have concerns for one’s self to simply a waste of life. If one life can befit so many than why would you live your life so that it only benefits one?... As many of my stories show, being selfish gets you nowhere, and sacrificing brings a person great strength. For example, the bridge keeper, who sacrificed his son's life for the lives of many others: great inner strength. This is also shown in my novel, "All the Way Home," where Nat demonstrates great inner strength by giving up all that he had to find his father in attempt to save his family. Another example is the song "Hero of War- Rise Against." This is extremely significant to inner strength because it shows how sacrifice is not always easy.

I used many more media pieces for my sacrifice side of my tapestry because I felt as if the significance of sacrifice outweighed the significance of selfishness by a mile. Every media piece I could find on Selfishness did not catch my interest like sacrifice did.  I found most selfish- related stories and media pieces simple and boring, while stories and media pieces on sacrifice were interesting and had a good message. Although I only used two pieces of writing for selfishness, I believe that it was still represented well. Most stories on selfishness are the same, while sacrifice can be shown in a variety of ways which is why I chose to do my tapestry the way I did. Overall, I believe that my tapestry clearly represented both sides of my theme.
